Approaching wine shouldn’t be intimidating, it should be a fun experience. Check out these tips:
1. Pair wines with foods you love: Don’t be afraid to try something unconventional, experiment with different flavor combinations. Try pairing a sweet wine with a savory dish, a bold red with seafood, sparkling wine with a bag of popcorn or dry rose with BBQ chicken pizza. Wine and food pairing is like a playground for your taste buds.
2. Don’t worry too much about the “rules”: While some pairings are more classic than others, ultimately you should drink what you enjoy and pair it with foods you love. Don’t think you have the right glass…feel free to drink your chardonnay from a coffee mug or your cabernet sauvignon from a mason jar. Rules are meant to be broken!
3. Step out of your wine comfort zone and take a sip into the unknown with blind tastings or new wines: This can be a fun way to test your palate and discover new wines without any preconceived notions. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite bottle!
4. Don’t get caught up in the technical jargon: Wine descriptions can be intimidating, but ultimately you should focus on what tastes good to you. Instead of focusing on tasting notes, describe a wine in a silly ways, “this wine tastes like: “unicorns and rainbows”, “a bold and sassy Samantha from Sex and the City.” , “happy thoughts and cotton candy.” OR don’t describe it all and enjoy!
5. Gather your wine-loving pals and let the good times flow!: Host a tasting party and sip on your favorite vino without any criticism. Remember, in wine and friendship, there are no rules!
6. Don’t be afraid to ask questions: When in doubt, don’t pout, just shout it out! Ask the sommelier, the wine shop guy, or just slide into our DMs. We’ll happily share our wine wisdom.
Wine should be enjoyed with the same enthusiasm as a puppy chasing its tail or a kid with a big bowl of ice cream. Don’t let the fancy words and polished glasses intimidate you. Cheers to life’s simple pleasures!
